The concept of a clash of civilizations became more popular, as well as more controversial, after 9/11. Samuel Huntington introduced the phrase “clash of civilizations” in 1993 in an article in the Journal of Foreign Affairs. Since then many scholars have spoken about the war on terror as a sign of a possible conflict between the West and the Islamic world. Others would argue that 9/11 was a sign that this clash of civilizations has already begun. Continue reading
